Welcome to my blog Songs for Cambodia. For my first post, I would like to share with you a song that touched my life. “Like the Sun” is a powerful song that encourages you to cling to hope in the face of adversity. The message is simple: You can depend on God no matter what challenges you face in life. Like the sun rises every day; God’s promises never change. You may have built your home on the beautiful mountain or in paradise. Maybe your life is difficult and you reside in the deepest darkest cave. No matter where you are in life, we can all look at the sun. It does not cost us anything to watch the sun rise. No man owns the sun nor its power. The sun belongs to God. And His purpose through it is to shine light on the entire earth for all people. And everyday, by His mercy, the sun rises. Like the sun, God’s love for you and I never fails. His promise is forever.
For a year, I listened to this song everyday. Borey, my amazing friend from Poipet taught me how to sing “Like the Sun” in Khmer when we realized we both loved the song. (I plan to write a post about Borey in the near future). This song had a significant impact on my decision to return to Cambodia in July 2018. Before my sudden departure to Cambodia, my brother Matt and I recorded a music video cover for the song in Baltimore, MD. We edited the video on July 24th for many hours. The video was completed and shared via Facebook that night at 11:00 pm and I left for Cambodia the next morning at 3:00 am!
